Dear Parents,
After weeks of anticipation, I am thankful to share with you that Issue 17 – the district’s 5.9-mill operating levy – was approved by voters. The final certified results show 15,214 voters supporting Hilliard City Schools and no recount will be necessary.
Passage of this issue provides Hilliard City Schools with appropriate levels of funding for day-to-day expenses, programs and services for the next three years. This also means that the more than $10.2 million in previously identified budget reductions will not need to be made.
This is a win for our community, but most importantly for the more than 15,600 students we serve on a daily basis. Not only will they avoid expensive fees for extracurricular activities, but Hilliard City Schools will continue to provide the teachers, staff, classes and services that have made this district one of Ohio’s best. Keeping strong schools also protects property values and supports our entire community.
While we are excited about these results, please also understand that the district’s efforts of fiscal responsibility will not stop. This issue was not about new frills, but about maintaining the good schools we have today. The district will continue to tighten its belt and be efficient with these tax dollars. That is our pledge to the community and we will honor that commitment.
I know this has been a difficult and anxious time for all of us. I’d like to thank the more than 1,000 volunteers who enthusiastically passed out literature, addressed questions and shared information to help our community make an informed decision regarding Issue 17. Their efforts have provided much for our entire community to be thankful for during this holiday season. Please enjoy your time with family and friends and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
